Virginia State Government MEDICAL ASSISTANT (Fulltime with Benefits) in Chesapeake, Virginia
Southeastern Virginia Training Center is seeking a qualified candidate to act as the medical liaison for Off-Campus Medical appointments to include preparing, attending and reporting plan of care for each individual.
MUST BE A CURRENT CERTIFIED MEDICAL ASSISTANT
The position will be responsible for assisting in Daily Medical Clinics (Sick-Calls) to include notifying residential staff of appointments, taking vital signs, following up calls to Authorized Representatives (AR), cleaning exam room after each appointment, organizing exam room and maintaining supply inventory.
The successful candidate will ensure accurate health information is reported to Medical and Nursing staff.
Medical Liaison for Off-Campus Medical Appointments.
Schedule all appointments for the medical clinics (sick call/follow up/annual) as well as assisted MD/NP in treatment room during visit. Communicate with residential staff to get individual to treatment room, possibly assisting to get individual from home if necessary.
Gather paperwork necessary for off campus appointments. (med list, problem list, AR info, consent form from HIM, consult form). Familiarize and collect necessary information prior to appointment.
Attend off campus medical appointments with individuals to ensure good medical communication between doctor offices and SEVTC.
Review Individual Record Chart to obtain pertinent health information to ensure proper data is retrieved for follow up appointments.
Assist in Daily Medical Clinics (Sick-Calls) and Specialty Clinics
Phlebotomy – draw stat blood work on individuals in the Medical Clinic
Collecting of all data for clinics and assist medical and nursing staff
Neuro Specialty Clinic (every 2 months)– Obtain lab results, seizure records, medication lists
Psych Clinic (twice a week) –Assist nursing in obtaining lab results , reports for each clinic
Podiatry Specialty (Every two months) – Complete podiatry consults forms prior to podiatry appointment. Assist podiatrist in clinic by holding feet and helping with patients
Eye (Every 4 months) – Print old eye consults and organize them to match the schedule. For any new patients, research old records to see if any information pertains to eyes.
Research information for annual physicals, i.e. print annual labs, complete top of form, find out when individual’s past information, i.e. last mammogram, pap, DEXA, colonoscopy, PSA, and any other necessary information
Organizes and Participates on-sight medical clinics.
Collects immunization records prior to annual physicals
File Clinic information in Health Service Files to maintain records
Manages Medical Treatment Room Daily Operations.
Order all supplies for the treatment room to keep it stocked and keep it organized and in a presentable manner at all times.
Liaison with Nursing Services
Perform identified routine phlebotomy services to individuals
Attend Nurse Shift report to ensure update information on individuals
Order medical /nursing supplies
Schedule diagnostic tests with Dynamic Mobile Imaging and coordinate schedule with Residential Staff.
This position is considered essential personnel and would be required to work in the event of an emergency or facility need. All SEVTC positions are required to work different shifts, and/or overtime as requested.
Minimum Qualifications Strong patient care skills required. Knowledge of Medical Terminology required. Must have strong computer skills at the intermediate level to include knowledge of MS Office Products (Word, Excel, and Outlook) required. Ability to keep organized medical records and files required. Ability to maintain an adequately stocked treatment room and manage inventory required. Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations required. Ability to maintain attention to detail required. Ability to follow detailed instructions required. Ability to multi-task required. Good verbal and written communication skills required. Ability to communicate effectively with staff, medical personnel, outside entities such as hospital personnel and family members required. Skilled in working with ID/DD individuals preferred.
Applicants must be a current Certified or Registered Medical Assistant (Required). At least 1 year of experience working as a medical assistant required. Valid Virginia Driver’s License Required. CPR certification required. Phlebotomy experience required.
Previous experience with medical transcription preferred. Experience working in the ID/DD field preferred.
AN FBI background check will be required prior to employment.
