The Virginia Beach Department of Public Health (VBDPH) Dental Clinic seeks a Dental Office Manager (DOM). This position focuses on the growth of the dental program that serves children from low-income families throughout Virginia Beach. The DOM serves as the primary administrative and clerical support for the dental clinic to include client scheduling; verifying client eligibility; and clinic billing and coding. The manager gathers program data and submit reports; assists with contracts and MOAs; and provides clerical support to the Public Health Dentist. Additionally, the position conducts outreach to increase the number of new patients seen in clinic; improves processes to increase retention of patients; and increases clinic productivity and efficiencies. The incumbent will supervise the dental assistant as well as support the Public Health Dentist with training, teaching and providing guidance to the dental assistant. The DOM will also act as a back-up dental assistant. While many of the children receive care at no cost, Medicaid is accepted. This position will work to capture revenue and research denied dental claims to decrease denials rate to increase overall revenue thus enhancing stewardship of the city resources that support the program. The VBDPH Dental Office Manager serves as the lead point of contact for our district’s dental program. This is a restricted position which is solely funded by The City of Virginia Beach for a one year period ending June 30, 2019. The availability of funding is scheduled for review annually and periodically thereafter. Employment is contingent on the continued availability of grant or non-general funds.
Knowledge of office procedures and experience working in an office setting to include client scheduling; verifying client eligibility; and clinic billing and coding. Ability to deal with the public under stressful situations in a professional manner. Experience as a dental assistant. Communicate effectively orally and in writing. Skill and experience utilizing WebVision and Microsoft Office. Ability to work independently as well as part of a team. Ability to teach and communicate instructions clearly and concisely in a supportive manner. High school graduate or equivalent.
Experience teaching dental assistants. Passion for public health.
